I have been a Police Cadet for over five years. I joined the organisation in April 2013. In October 2013, I was promoted to the prestigious rank of Team Leader and in March 2016 I was promoted again to Deputy Head Cadet. I have currently completed my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and I am waiting to receive the award from a member of the royal family. I’ve completed the Heart Start Foundation course, so I am now trained as a First Aider. During my time being a Police Cadet I have given up my free time helping the community by handing out crime prevention leaflets to the public. Every November, I volunteer to sell Poppies and other Remembrance Day merchandise to the public to help fundraise the British Region Charity. I've been on many competitions with Police Cadets for example, Thriftwood where we are tested on our physical ability and Gravesend where we are tested on our knowledge about policing and marching. Also, our ability to control different situations. I am also a singer who is part of a band and I have performed in many places for example, at the Royal Albert Hall. I am also really interested in Film, Media and Journalism. I love learning about Media overall, being creative and I like learning on the job.

Work history
During April 2015, I completed work experience in The College of North West London in Dollis Hill. During my time there, I worked in various places within the college for example, I was a librarian’s assistant in the college helping students return and borrow books. I helped with filing and sending fines to teachers and students. This work experience improved my communication and technology skills.
I have worked in Topshop in Brent Cross Shopping Centre as a Sales Assistant where I work in different departments in the store. From working on the till, to helping customers in the fitting rooms, working in Topshop has really helped me learn so much about customer service and how to treat everyone equally. I had been working here from October 2016-March 2018
I have also worked with Madame Tussauds attraction as an Operations Host. I worked within the different parts of the attraction from working on tills in the admission area to working within the attraction itself working within the Marvel 4D cinema. Madame Tussauds has really helped me broaden my horizons with talking different guest within the attraction bringing out the confidence I needed. I am currently still working here and have been since March 2018.

Personal statement
To be a successful journalist I believe you must be driven and committed. I have always had a keen passion in writing my own stories and articles, teamed with an interest in current affairs. I use my creativeness with both the content and the way in which I present the text. I like to adapt and be versatile in the things I do, which is why I think journalism is a great course for me. I enjoy to explore all avenues of a story, striving to understand all points of view; even if these ideas challenge my own. I hope this course will develop my skills and knowledge further and pave the way for a career as a journalist.
From 2013 I have been a Volunteer Police Cadet. This has developed my interest in current affairs and put me in the centre of big events in London; Trooping the Colour, Notting Hill Carnival and fundraising for the British Legion. Being part of this has taken me out of my comfort zone.
As a Police Cadet I have built up confidence speaking to people and learning to adapt the way I communicate to different groups of people. In the last few years, I have been working with the Junior Cadets, who are aged between 10 and 12 years old. I have delivered sessions, drawing on my own experience and understanding of the topics. Junior Cadets is open to all; it is non-discriminatory to race, background, social groups and learning abilities. I have therefore been able to adapt my sessions and my teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities. My Cadet Unit has recognised my contributions and I was promoted to team leader from 2013-2016 and deputy head cadet from 2016-2018. I have sought these responsibilities myself along with taking instruction from the Cadet Leaders. I have subsequently been awarded Jack Petchey Award for outstanding achievement in 2014.
In 2017 I completed the Senior Leadership Course, where we were taught how to be an achieving leader within our Cadet Units. This involved joint partnership working with the Sea, Army and St. John Ambulance Cadets. I was taught about different leadership styles, developed my group working and presentation skills. I used this opportunity to draw on other people skills and experienced to develop my own.
I have achieved all the Duke of Edinburgh awards, accomplishing Gold in 2018. I completed a residential, spending five days away from home with a group of strangers. I had to work as part of a team to create a fire station. I am approachable and very comfortable working with new people. This was demonstrated on this task as I was voted the ‘Project Manager’. As the ‘Project Manager’ I delegated tasks and managed the team, encouraging them throughout, while completing tasks of my own. I was able to prioritise tasks and manage my workload. As a team we collaborated our findings and presented our project back to the whole group. For this presentation, I was able to explain the project and present my group work, which made my group win best concept award within my residential group. As a result, we all successfully completed our residential and I will be presented my award in Buckingham Palace at the next award ceremony.
During my academic studies in media, I have refined my use of Adobe products such as Photoshop and InDesign and feel confident in using these programmes. I have used the programmes while participating in a Cyber Awareness Training where I designed leaflets and presentations to distribute to elderly care homes. I used Adobe products to make sure that the information delivered was understandable and professional. I am keen to further my learning in relation to media and technology as this would assist me in developing my career in journalism.
If I was given a place, I would use this opportunity to develop and enhance my skills and prepare me for a good start within the Journalism industry also to help me discover new aspects about journalism that I am very interested to learn and take to the next level.
Choices
1st Option: London South bank University
2nd Option: University of Arts London
3rd Option: University of Westminster
4th Option Birkbeck, University of London
5th Option: Middlesex University
At the moment I have a unconditional place from Middlesex University, a conditional place in Westminster on the condition that I get a Merit on the course I am on and; an interview on the 30th of January 2019 at 13:45 at South Bank University. The reason I chose these courses it because I am really passionate about Journalism and I feel like if I go on to study journalism, I can find out more about the subject itself intensely rather than it be a module in a course. Also, I want to find out more opportunities that I can do in Journalism and find out which one is for me.
This is one of the acceptance letters I have received from one of the universities I have applied for. They are thanking and congratulating me on the offer to the University of Westminster and they hope I choose well within my decision. Considering the fact I need to achieve a Merit to get into this uni, I hope I can able to attend this uni as it is the closest one to where I live which is cheaper and easier for me to attend. It is not my first choice of university but I feel like I would like to study here as they seem very welcoming as this is the only letter I have received from any university that I have applied for. This the skills audit where I began to compare certain skills that I have and if I am keen to improve them or how confident I am about them. This can help me with interviews and how I can answer questions about myself and skills I have that I can contribute to the course. Making an audit did help, now I can plan what I can say but also find ways I can help myself improve those skills and help me achieve much more within the universities I have applied for. This helped identify strengths and weaknesses within myself and how to really think about ways on how to make the weaknesses into strengths to help me for my future.
