Reflective Log
Week 1 10/09/18-14/09/18
I started the project by analysing identities of different companies for example. I was listing and explaining the elements of the company 38 degrees. Explaining how elements like typography,size and layout can help the company create an identity for example their logo is on an angle and has a specific colour scheme. I was also analysing the a different campaign which is relevant to what I am doing in my case study.
Week 2 17/09/18-21/09/18
Week 3 24/09/18-28/09/18
I started this week by learning about surrealism within the media and advertisement. Using examples from Lex Drewinsky and Michal Batory and thinking about how their designs have become successful within the public eye. I also decided to research about why surrealism is used within advertisement and the effect it has on its target audience. I also made a surrealism image which is relevant towards the social campaign I'll be writing about in the case study. I figured if I actually experimented with surrealism then I'll be able to decided properly which style I would like to use within the case study.
Week 4 01/10/18-5/10/18
Learning about social campaigning issues and different types. Analysing Ad busters and Brandlism which both have different ways into exploring how to connect with their target audience and taking a look about different styles and how they work in the public. Also learning about Tibor Kalman and how his designs made an impact in the media about serious topics like racism, aids and sexual infections/diseases. I attempted to make a website about Tibor Kalmon on Dreamweaver but due to the fact that I didn't understand the software too well I decided to not continue the website as it would have been too time consuming.
Week 5 08/10/18-12/10/18
I was learning about experimental jetset and how it is used within the media. Knowing for their helvetica font, it is widely used around advertisement. I made a poster using Ariel as it is the closest font I had to helvetica. I made the poster based around my social campaign which is knife crime. Using images and ideas I had before from other plans. I was able to make a poster about knife crime with letters on their side and a image of a knife slicing the middle of a word.
Week 6 15/10/18-19/10/18
I was starting off learning about how to structure a campaign pitch to read and I was also analysing social messages from different videos and thinking and writing how they present their messages through the videos.
Week 7 29/10/18-02/11/18
Campaign pitch. Presenting and receiving feedback from other people in the class.
Week 8 05/11/18-09/11/18
This week I was researching about how different campaigns present themselves in the media for example, the layout, the source and the theme of their campaign and how they plan to present the issue to the audience with demographics and graphs.
Week 9 12/11/18-16/11/18
Starting to think about names for the social campaign that I am making which is about knife crime. Carrying on with the case study about two different knife crime campaigns. One based in London and one based in Glasgow. Analysing and comparing the companies and seeing how they present and how they appear to the public
Week 10 19/11/18-23/11/18
Once I found a name for my campaign, I started designing the logo on Photoshop. Using DaFont.com I was able to create a suitable logo for my campaign which the people in my class will give feedback on and vice versa.
Week 11 26/11/18-30/11/18
Working on the feedback I was given from the week before. Focusing on how the logo can be made better and unique than what it is by changing the colour of the knife e.g. Referring back to the feedback sheet I was given when I presented my logo to the rest of the class for them to give me feedback on and I was giving feedback to their pieces of work.
Week 12 03/12/18-07/12/18
This week I was ill at home.
Week 13 10/12/18-14/12/18
This week I tried to recover the work I missed on the last week and now I am up-to-date on the blog. My intentions were to keep going at the case study as I am now half way through the word count. I also received peer assessment feedback from someone in the class about my essay and received the feedback and I was able act upon the feedback. During this week I am going to update my logo with the feedback I received and update my blog under production and continue with the case study.
Week 14 17/12/18-21/12/18
Finished case study and checked if the word count is correct and started Harvard referencing the bibliography of the links I have used.
Week 17 7/01/19-10/01/19
Started making the posters for the social campaigns using Photoshop and makes a few examples using royalty free images. Had a bit of trouble with the colours of the images clashing with fonts but it all worked out fine in the end. Continued to update blog with units 9, 10 and 1. I am planning on using actual images that are taking by myself as I am not allowed to use royalty images for this project.
Week 18 14/01/19-17/01/19
This week I started taking some images for the social campaign. It was quite hard because of the props I decided to use. I had to be careful when taking the images. The photo shoot was fine and I was able to start edited and making the posters. What I found hard was that I had to try and replicate or make the images similar to the royalty free images which was hard to copy but I was able to produce good enough images which I can work with and edit for the poster.
Week 19 21/01/19-24/01/19
This week I completed making posters for my social campaign. I was stuck with trying to make images which were portrait because I took images which were landscape and I had to crop original images the best I can to make sure they try and fit the conventional measurements of advertisements on bus stops and tube station adverts. I was able to create a photo shoot to capture images for the campaign and I realised most of the images taken were landscape. I was able to resolve this by rearranging the font and images the best I could on photo shop but next time I should have taken the time to plan the photo shoot properly to know I don't need to have this issue again.
Week 20 28/01/19-31/01/19
I have completed all the posters I have created. I am now going to try and make a profile for the campaign to show on twitter, Facebook or Instagram and find out the measurement which are needed to make this happen. What measurements I need to create the profiles and what I need make a successful social media presence. A problem I dealt with is that I was looking for updated Instagram templates but I was only viewing old templates meaning that I couldn't get the right dimensions. I solved it by making an actual account with the right dimensions and add up to the research.
Week 21 04/02/19-07/02/19
This week I decided to think of ways of promoting my social campaign. One way I have done this is by making a social media page. I started with making accounts by making an Instagram account with researching about the right dimensions. Then I made a flyer and started to blog the process of it. One problem I faced was trying to find a template of making the social media page. I ended up making a real one to make it more realistic. I have also started on my evaluation and hope to be complete by the end of this week

Analysing different types of construcivists for example, David King, who is inspired by different types of construcivists and Lyubov Popova,who design for the cover of the booklet Russian Postal Telegraph Statistic, seeing their work and I would be able to apply their style to my work. Analysing their posters and taking a look about what I like about their designs. I made my own construcivists poster about giving votes for 16+ as it is an important issue about dealing with young peoples futures and young people having a voice within the matter. Also, researching the meaning of promotional mixes and marketing context and writing the meanings within my own words. Also, going on a virtual studio online to help myself understand 3 point lighting within my work to be able to use when taking images for projects.
